MORGAN PURLOCK want to explores the consequences on the
body and mind of fat food by himself, so he decide to eat McDonald’s meals
three times per day for a moth and changes his healthy habits for a sedentary
life. He also wants to demonstrate that fast food industry is one of the first consequence
of American’s obesity epidemic.
United States of America is first country with the
highest percentage of obese people in the world. In the state of Alabama
approximately a 30.1% of adults and a 16.7% of children and adolescents are
obese.
According to the American Journal of Clinical
Nutrition fast food as hamburgers, French fries, bacon and all processed food
are a contributing factor for obesity in the United States because they content
large amounts of carbohydrates, added sugar, unhealthy fats and salt. This type
of food is also high in calories and frequently replaces nutritious food in
diet. With the time this type of food could cause diabetes, respiratory
problems, depression and addiction.
Obesity is big problem and government don’t care it
because meals in public schools are the primary example of developing of
nutritional choices as the foods offered are not as healthy as they are claimed
to be. Some school system provide children with these popular foods that are
high in fats and calories but they are cheaper.
Spurlock wanted to show the true about this type of
food so he decided to do an experiment that consisted of eating three
McDonald’s meals per day for a moth, he only consumed only items offered on McDonald’s
menu and ate only super-sized meals. In the end of the experiment he gained 24 lb.
Increased his cholesterol, experienced sexual dysfunction and many heal
problems.
